Woman Who Abandoned Newborn on Business Class Seat Sets Out to Reunite After 13 Years
When Rhonda, then 16, discovered that she was pregnant, her life had gone utterly awry. Her rich father, David Harris, asked her candidly: “Abort the baby or leave the house.” Rhonda refused to do so, and that easily became enough reason to leave. Her boyfriend Peter, shortly after finding all this out, abandoned her. Homeless, heartbroken, and on the verge of being a mother, Rhonda wandered the streets, waiting until she went into labor.
The distressed Rhonda was found by a kind-hearted woman, Angela Bamford, who whisked her off to the hospital. Giving birth to a baby boy, an overwhelmed and overtly fearful Rhonda left her son on the plane along with a note, naming him Matthew Harris, in anticipation that he would be given a better life.
Years later, wracked with guilt, Rhonda tried to find her son-by then 13 and adopted by Lincy, the flight attendant who had discovered him. Matthew was angry and shunned her, unable to fathom how his mother could have abandoned him.
As time wore on, Matthew’s heart warmed up, and they began to get their relationship back on track. At 23, Matthew finally forgave Rhonda, finally understanding how desperation had driven her actions.
Now, full circle, Rhonda has started to date a man named Andrew and reunited with Angela, who was well-pleased with the progress Rhonda has made. Perseverance and support allowed Rhonda to heal her relationship with the son she once thought she’d lost forever.
