My sister and I were excitedly and anxiously headed out to the woods in order to set up our camp. But that excitement soon turned sour because of a bald man in a blue shirt out walking his dog. At first, he seemed friendly enough; we would soon learn to feel otherwise.

“Instinctively, I took a picture of him,” I said later, knowing something wasn’t quite right. The more we walked, the more we surely caught sight of him again near the lake. He was asking too many curious questions about our route that were making us suspicious. We lied by telling him that we were going to meet our father and quickly moved in the opposite direction, taking a hidden route.

We quickened our pace, with this feeling of discomfort increasing. He acted as if he were playing with his dog, but soon it was clear that he was the one following us. The tension built up, and we could sense that we were indeed being followed.

When we spoke with our mother later, she said he had been implicated in the breaking and entering of a house. This really heightened our fear; our instincts had been right, something was seriously off.

What started out as a fun-filled and exciting camping trip slowly transformed into a hair-raising encounter and also acted as a grim warning that there is some lurking danger at times around every corner.
