A Kind Story That Prove a Little Sympathy Goes a Long Way

Working one day at a fast-food restaurant, I saw that a woman had forgotten her Louis Vuitton bag on a table. Well, after some 20 minutes of waiting and not seeing her get back, I thought I would take this bag to the lost and found. I didn’t look inside, just put it there and went back to work.

A month passed, and nobody came forward to claim the bag. My manager, sort of offhandedly, said, “Hey, it’s been a month…you want that bag?” I thought about it for a second and said sure; went in the back, and got it. I opened it for the first time and found it to be empty except for a singular piece of paper.

It was a receipt in paper, with a handwritten note saying, “To the girl who needed a new purse during the holidays.” I peeked at the receipt and found the bag had cost $1,700! It thus seemed that whoever the lady was, she wanted to leave this bag for someone who needed it more-a random act of kindness planned all along.

I carefully put everything in that bag and brought it home without disclosing my find to anyone. That purse meant so much more than a fashion accessory: it helped me feel and look at least somewhat put together when going to various job interviews.

I still carry this bag today. It is a memento of those modest days when I didn’t have much. More importantly, it inspires me to pay that act of kindness forward and give back in whatever means possible to others whenever I can.
