Uche Ojeh, the husband of longtime Today co-anchor Sheinelle Jones, has passed away at age 45 following a courageous battle with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

The somber news was delivered during the Today broadcast on Friday, May 23. Co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, and Jenna Bush Hager shared the announcement with visible sorrow, calling it a moment of “profound sadness,” as reported by People.
“We’re heartbroken for Sheinelle and her children,” Guthrie said. “There truly are no words. Uche was so deeply loved. Sheinelle, Kayin, Clara, and Uche—we’re holding you close and sending all our love.”

He and Sheinelle had been married for 18 years and were parents to three children: their son Kayin, 15, and 12-year-old twins, Clara and Uche.
Their story began at Northwestern University, where Sheinelle was a freshman and Uche, a high school senior, was visiting the campus. Years later, that same campus became the setting for their engagement. After spending eight years in a long-distance relationship, the couple married in her hometown of Philadelphia on September 2, 2007.
