When asked about recurring themes and ideas in his series, Alec gave insight into his creative process. He described two main approaches: one in which he uses humor and a magical realism to reflect on his struggles with anxiety, ADHD and chronic depression, but thankfully the second approach is deliberate it has been silly and absurd, often a play on genres. For example, Detective Man mocks detective shows, Haunted House Husband satirizes horror movies, and Midnight Justice mocks the Batman archetype. Additionally, Alec described his penchant for politics, social commentary and humour, fueled primarily by anger.

The artist also revealed his approach to a new sense of humor, revealing that he often jots down ideas on his phone as they come to him.
